What puiblic companies can I invest in that are in the field of refining oil from the oil sands in Alberta?

It seems like there is an abundance of oil that is ';stuck'; in the sand in Alberta, Canada. I think that this might be a good area of potential investment, in regards to companies that extract the oil, I would appreciate some guidance is anyone has more knowledge about this. What puiblic companies can I invest in that are in the field of refining oil from the oil sands in Alberta?

I suggest you approach this the other way around by first deciding, which companies you'd like to work for. Then you find their home pages and listing of available jobs.

How to get in the Oil & Gas engineering field?

I'm an electrical engineer with a master's degree in EE, and I'm very much interested in getting in the Oil %26amp; Gas field. I live in Windsor, ON and I'm unable to find an entry level job to get in this field. Please help or suggest what should i do?How to get in the Oil %26amp; Gas engineering field?
Before you go the oil and gas route, look into the WIND TURBINES that are sprouting up. There are a LOT of jobs in that new industry for Graduate Electrical Engineers.

I'm 46 and have much work experience to offer an employer, Am i too old to work for a oil field company?

in machine repair and maintenance, i'm a very motivated self starter type person with no issues, but will they say i'm to old?I'm 46 and have much work experience to offer an employer, Am i too old to work for a oil field company?
The old professor says: Probably not. I have trained many in the geosciences to work in oil fields and while on site at many I did see older fellows working on pump engine repair and other similar jobs. I would think if you felt you could get a job as an auto mechanic in a garage at your age, why not in an oil field doing almost the same thing?I'm 46 and have much work experience to offer an employer, Am i too old to work for a oil field company?
There are hundreds of shops in Texas and Louisiana that will hire you in a second - check the Houstonchronicle.com jobs section. Much depends on what kind of machine repair and maintainence experience you have. You are definitely not too old.
First that is against the law. U must sell your self and the oil co. do have the money . Good luck.

Oil companies in Alberta are always looking for people like you (i.e. specialist).

Most are located in Calgary and Edmonton.

The work itself could be anywhere there is oil but more than likely would have you going to Fort McMurray in Northern Alta.

Would the Germans have capture Leningrad,Moscow,Stalingrad & Baku oil field if Barbarrossa started in March?

No, the initial attack would have beem slowed down by the winter and then come to a complete halt once the spring thaw came and turned everything to mud. Between the melting snow and the heavy spring rains, they would have been bogged down until mid-june, gaining a small amount of territory in exchange for completely losing the element of suprise. Had they attacked in March, I doubt they would have reached the Dnepier river by the winter of 41.

    edit:

So if Winter was bad for the Germans, how would have attacking in Winter have helped them? And the mud of spring and fall made rapid advances impossible; in October of 1941 the Germans were actually hoping for an early winter to harden the ground so the tanks could move again. March would have been about the worst possible month for them to attack; one month of snow followed by two months of mud is hardly ideal for a blitzkrieg.Would the Germans have capture Leningrad,Moscow,Stalingrad %26amp; Baku oil field if Barbarrossa started in March?
Yes because they would manage to do it before the Russian winter(which was the main reason of their defeat because tanks, equipment and men froze). Many historians claim that Yugoslavia is to blame for German defeat, because Germany had to deal with Yugoslavia until the end of April. And 2 months is a lot of time in modern warfare.

Has anybody heard about the oil field and if the rigs are gonna be put back up?

Whats going on with the Oil industry. I heard its suppost to start picking back up in august of this summer of 2009 but it don't seem like it at all. nothing is happening yet for the rigs and oil field jobs. People are still on hiring freezes and alot of people are laid off in the oil fields here in north dakota. Nothing is moving and just wondering if its really suppost to start up anytime soonHas anybody heard about the oil field and if the rigs are gonna be put back up?
No one can really tell when its coming back. Rig counts have dropped off more than 50 percent since the end of August last year.. Natural gas prices determine drilling and oilfield activity and prices are very low right now. High oil prices should stabilize the business, but it wont increase it much. It wont come back strong until natural gas prices increase, and inventories decrease. And I think thats going to be 2010 or later.. We have huge amounts of natural gas in storage and it usually increases in the summer months. With huge inventories and a weak economy I dont see the oilfield picking up significantly for a year or two. I grew up around the drilling business in several different states. So I can understand how you feel. Its always been a cyclical business. Busts happen about once a decade. It happened in the 60s, 80s and 90s. It skipped the 70s because the embargos and shortages kept prices up. We paid for it in the 80s with one of the worst busts. Some people, who had worked in the oilfield for decades left the business never to work in it again in their careers. And some of the largest and oldest companies went out of business. And a few banks. This bust is the worst since then. The oilfield isnt dead, its just dormant..

i'm instrument engineer in water field and want to go to oil field what i need to learn about??? instruments, valves, calibration or what plz helpI want to work in oil field what i need to learn?
The controls in the oil field are no different than those in many other industries. They control pressure, flow, level and temperature.

If you are a qualified instrument engineer, you should be able to move into the oil field and have little problem adapting.

One entry point for such work is with a firm that supplies instruments and service to the oil field. You might want to contact companies such as Fisher Controls, Honeywell or Mason Neilan.I want to work in oil field what i need to learn?
you need to know how to put the right instruments in the right place. how they work. e.g. where to put flowmeteres, what type of flometeres depends of the cost and other criteria of the project. pressure gages and termometers are essensial as well...etc

Troll - and an ignorant one at that.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion..that is what makes this country (US) so special. Would you really want to deny that to the people of Iraq. Just because they have not turned into a perfect little ';free'; country for the media does not mean that their has not been progress.

Now, regarding your question...if you drive a car or use any type of transportation, I think it is a bit hypocritical to judge ';republican conservatives'; so harshly. We rely on oil from our own soil and other countries, like Iraq. But, guess what? We also pay for that oil...it's not cheap either. Also, I have several American friends that have fought in Iraq multiple times, and they have given me so many stories of how thankful the Iraqi people are of our help. Sure, not everyone is (like the terrorists), but many of the common folk sure are. On that note, I'm sure that the women of Afghanistan that have been continually abused and treated as second class citizens appreciate our help as well. Are you against us helping them too?
    What's Next?

I reckon world domination. Maybe start working our way across the rest of the Middle East. And by the way, the rainbow background is a little homosexual. But maybe thats what you were going for isn't it?
well duh, thats the launching point for our imperial storm troopers to take the entire middle east. AND THEN LORD VADER will crush bin ladens throat in a force..... oh wait , sorry this is reality.
Do you think it was better before we got there?

    Nice rainbow, by the way...
To date, the US has not recieved any oil from Iraqi oil fields.

As for the second part of your question, your ignorance and political bias is telling.

There are 3 million + active duty members in the US military and less than 175+K are in and around Iraq. There is a war going on, so 175K isn't very big at all...
    Well, since that won't happen...

I guess we don't have to worry about what's next.

    g-day!
After 6 years without oil and you still think it's about oil?

    Hot damn you're gullible.
The second most silliest ill thought out question, I've seen in Yahoo answers. Today
Well I reckon we'll have to stop the world and buy you a friggin' CLUE!!! Do you read the news or do any research before you ask these stupid questions?!

I guess not, that'd be an awful lot to expect from a liberal moonbat.

Here...I'll throw you a bone... did you know, that despite the fact that the U.S. deserves some bloody free oil after everything they've done in Iraq, the U.S. in fact pays for all oil imported from there?

But, after taking out a dictator who killed more of his own than Idi Amin in Uganda, and continuing to fight and take out members of Al Qaeda, (the same group that took out the trade center?? do you remember that one? try to keep up), I shouldn't be surprised that a liberal pinhead like you would simplify what's happening over there to oil and bases.

What is an oil field frac tank and how is one used?

Its a mobile storage tank that is the approximate size of an 18 wheeler's trailer. Basically it is a big box designed to hold water that is pumped into it.

When I worked in the environmental industry we used them as a means to allow sediments to settle out from water that was pumped in. The tanks are fitted with piping that allows water to be pumped out from a high or low suction point at one end of the tank. A pipe at the other end is used to fill the tank. The tank may be fitted with a heating coil which allows steam to be piped in to heat the contents of the tank.

You can use the tank in either batch treatment or continuous treatment. In batch treatment you first fill the tank then treat the water in the tank with chemical or let it settle for a period of time then pump it out. Usually in batch treatment you have two or more tanks so while your filling one tank your letting the other settle

Continuous tratment you pump water in to fill the tant then when its nearly full you pump water out while your continue to pump water in. The lenght of the tank and its volume still allows sediment to settle out.

In the environment industry these tanks are used in conjunction with granular activated carbon filter beds and bag filters. The tanks receive water from the well or dig site. Water is then pumped out of the tank and passed through a 25 to 50 micron bag filter and then passed to the GAC beds afterwhich its discharged to either a sewer or water way.

You can also use these tanks in well development where acid is poured into the well to break up iron oxide that is fouling the well. Water is then pumped into the tank from the well where its neutralized then treated with a GAC

I imagine that similar usages in an oil field would take place. In addition the tanks could be used for water storage for use in drilling as well as water treatment.

    Edit

In addition to letting sediment settle in the tank you can also let oils float to the top and collect while water is pumped from near the bottom of the tankWhat is an oil field frac tank and how is one used?
Oil well fracturing is a method to help very tight reservoirs produce more oil and gas. The site below gives a fairly good idea of what is going on. You will note the tanks at the right in the picture, they are the frac tanks or fluid storage tanks.

Im looking for a footage counter that goes on a wireline used for deviation tool in the oil field?

I'm not sure I understand your question, but depth counters for various logging tools are mounted on the cable spool that hold the tools cable. When the cable is spooled out as the tool is lowered in the hole, the amount is measured by how many times the footage counter wheel goes around. You might go to a petroleum terms web site or see Schlumberger.com for more techical info.

What is galled thread in oil field?

I am assuming your talking about a galled thread in an oil field? A galled mechanical thread in an oil field or any other type of application is known as: a condition where the threads %26amp; or mating threads gall, seize, or form a burr due to misalignment, fatigue, or failure...etc. Typically different materials for the mating components are used to prevent this galling. A typical use for the word is: the threads are galled up meaning they dont fit properly or are very hard or unable to loosen. What is galled thread in oil field?
Thread that has been galled is typically on the bolt. The thread will no longer be ';sharp'; as a new thread. The tip of the thread will appear to be worn down or laid over. It will make the match to the nuts much harder to make up and may be bad enough to cause the nut to slip on the bolt under load. What is galled thread in oil field?
Galled threads are threads that are messed up. This can be caused by several things. Misalignment while making up, making up to fast, improper application of thread compound, the wrong type of thread compound, or over-torqueing. Or also from just being made up too many times. Some threads can be field repaired, it just depends on the type of thread and how much load it has to bear. On some connections the threads and thread compound act as a seal, on others they have a metal-to-metal seal and the threads only bear they load. If you have more questions feel free to contact me.

What about increasing Alaskan oil field production to supplement US oil production and bring down gas prices?

Using more Alaskan oil will not change the price of gas. It is the oil companies that are causing such outrageous prices. Exxon-Mobil reported record profit last year somewhere in the neighborhood of $35B which is the most profit any company has earned in a single year EVER (they were named Forbes most profitable company for 2005). If their supplies were low or they had problems with their refining as they blame on Katrina they would not be able to create such a large profit margin. They are simply raising the prices that they sell it for because they know that they can blame it on other factors and we will still buy the fuel. What about increasing Alaskan oil field production to supplement US oil production and bring down gas prices?
The tree huggers have been blocking this idea for years. Now we are paying the price for saving some stupid tse tse fly or some such worthless bug. What about increasing Alaskan oil field production to supplement US oil production and bring down gas prices?
It's a good idea, however, the tree-huggers will throw a fit and a half about it.

Also, most of the oil from Alaska gets immediately shipped to Japan under an agreement made by the Carter administration.
that would make way to much since
For which company are you working for?
Most of what's already coming out of Alaska goes straight to other countries. having been preordered months or years in advance. Some countries like japan have contracts to just ship it no matter the cost!

There's more than enough oil coming out of the pipe to easily handle all the US needs but some laws would need to be changed to redirect that flow to only us.

No the current problem is stations are being forced to add ethanol to gasoline. Ethanol cant just be dropped in a pipeline it has to be trucked. so refiners have only a limited supply of it at any given time. That's all thanks to another new law for cleaner burning fuels.

That and a new major market ';China'; putting real pressure on demand. It's just going to drive costs up on everything.

Experts argue some major change is about to occur. once the price reaches $100.00 a barrel and people can no longer afford to heat their homes we could have a crash in the global markets...AKA s**t hits the fan...

How Millwriters on oil/gas Field are differ by work from welders ,pipe fabricators, hydraulic technicians etc?

For general information. How Millwriters on oil/gas Field are differ by work from welders ,pipe fabricators, hydraulic technicians etc?
A Millwright is basically a mechanic, using wrenches, pry bars, hammers. They install equipment, bolt down or remove covers from tanks, bolt up flanges and that sort of thing. It is often outdoors work and likely to be heavy work. If you are big enough to handle it that's a way to get into the oil/gas field. The work is hard but it pays pretty good and you will seldom be out of work. How Millwriters on oil/gas Field are differ by work from welders ,pipe fabricators, hydraulic technicians etc?
A Millwright can and will do any trade's work if given the chance. He is by design, a multi-craft trade. So, if you have a small crew in mind, millwrights are a good way to go. They also do construction of new factory's and power generation plants.

Does anyone dare think we would see some relief at the gas pumps if illegals worked in the oil field?

Wouldn't care as long as the oil fields were in their home countries.Does anyone dare think we would see some relief at the gas pumps if illegals worked in the oil field?
Maybe you're not aware of this but we're working out a deal with Mexico concerning tapping into some oil reserves that lay mainly under their country. We have the bucks for the drilling equipment they have the oil you do the math. What do you think will be some of the provisions in that deal? Is cheaper gas going to make you happy then?Does anyone dare think we would see some relief at the gas pumps if illegals worked in the oil field?
At this point the illegal aliens think it is their 'right' to use their forged I.D.s and while they are doing that, collect welfare. Works well too! That would make the cheap wage illegal aliens far, far more expensive than American Workers.

But... it is against the law to hire illegal aliens. BUT.. if you tell the feds the illegal aliens could do YOUR job.. we would see relief in your industry. Ah yes... so straight up.. the answer is no conditionally.
No. Why would we? The gas crisis is caused by greedy investors. The status of the workers in the ';oil field'; is irrelevant.
No. The only difference is that americans would lose jobs. We are running out of oil on the earth, and prices are going to rise no matter what.
The people who work in the oil field have nothing to do with the prices being so high. That blame goes to our government.
No but gas is so expensive because they deciede how much there gonna make a year at the begining of the year!
Would that be the oil fields we're not allowed to open, or the ones overseas?
    No- why would it?

Illegals work in other areas of sociatey and those prices havn't gone down..
No! because the owners of those companies are money hungry idiots!
    No

Clothing needed in the oilfield oil field?

What kinds and how much clothing does a guy need in the oilfield (eastern montana). I'm starting this winter, so I know I'll need warm stuff. Any suggestions?Clothing needed in the oilfield oil field?
Insulated overalls, coveralls.....Steal toes are a must have on any rig. If you have to purchase your own clothing, go with Carhart. Do not buy cheap work clothes or boots, there is a big difference.Clothing needed in the oilfield oil field?
Work boots, might want to go with steel toe, but you have to remember that if something heavy hits that steel, you lose your toes. So maybe no steel toe. Lots of cheap clothes, especially jeans. They will be disgusting, and you will never want to get undressed in doors. Best to dress and undress in a garage. Your boots and jeans will quickly become solely for work. I suggest a spanish book, or eng-span translation book. Unless you are doing land work or something like that, these are all your best options.

Good Question.. You didnt join the facebook group yet, please message me if you want the link..

    No to demolishing

Imagine if that were true,,,,woah the worlds Egyptologists would be chained to the pyramids- we would need to get a wireless internet connection sorted for them, so sistablu could keep us updated on answers

With logic they would get all the clever senior engineers to find a way to suck it out without affecting the Pyramid (technically i think it could be done).

Oil can be sucked just like say when your having a milkshake and a straw, so it may not have to affect the pyramids. If the world's Largest oil field discovered beneath the pyramid?
There is something called directional drilling, i.e. your assumption is totally impossible.

but if you insist, and we are idiots enough to demolish it, you'll practically spend the oil revenues on site preparation, can you imagine the cost of demolishing and transferring the rocks from there to anywhere else?

Besides, who will let you? It doesn't actually belong to Egypt anymore, it belongs to humanity!

Anyway, i know you want to choke me by now :-) so to make it up for you i d accept tha assumption and i d say NO!

Don't demolish it. Move it just to the left.
The Americans would demolish it before you can say tutankhamun. Then kill everyone in the vicinity just to be sure.
My Personal Opinion Not To Demolish

But If Hosny Is The President He'll Demolish It
Do not demolish it. Oil fields are temporary and can be found in many other place. There will be a day when oil will no longer be a major source of energy. On the contrary pyramids are eternal and there is no way to replace them.

Pyramids are a heritage of mankind, they are still to be studied further, they are a link of a long chain of events that is called civilization.

Moot question: it's never going to happen. If there were huge oil fields they would have been discovered by now. Reserves of oil have been found, recently, in Egypt, but nowhere near the Great Pyramid.

The pyramids belong to the WORLD and to

posterity...the OIL would only belong to rich Egyptians, and turn it into another Saudi Arabia...with ALL that implies!

DEMOLISH THE GREAT PYRAMID???? Over my dead body!! LOL
    NOT TO DEMOLISH, of course.

oil wouldnt be found in the area of the Pyramids , not a sign of it.

if , God Forbid , it happens to be found there , 80 million ,minus a few utalitarian persons ,would go there with their sleepng bags and protect the Pyramid with their bodies .

nothing, nobody could stop the Egyptians from protecting their symbol of civilization.
re-place the pyramid if I'm going to benefit .
It should be moved not demolish.

How can you satisfy environmental groups whilst digging an oil field?

if they complain about endagered species within that perimeter...

thanksHow can you satisfy environmental groups whilst digging an oil field?
You put together an Environmental Plan that examines all the environmental issues and impacts. It will detail what mitigation and rectification/restoration measures you will put in place and then discuss it with the local authorities and the NGO's (Non Governmental Organisations)

They will then decide whether you have selected the best commercially possible environmental options.

The issues can become very complicated. However, if you are genuinely interested go to: http://www.ipieca.org/ for some more detailed information. How can you satisfy environmental groups whilst digging an oil field?
You have to protect the endangered species. It isn't just environmentalists, it is the law.

I am sure that you are a fine upstanding citizen who would never purposefully, or through negligence, cause an adverse impact on life, human health or the environment, but there are people throughout history who have acted in just the opposite way, and thus the need for laws and regulations.

protection doesn't necessarily require cessation of activity, in many if not most cases, you just have to conduct that activity with certain reasonable constraints on your operations..
No you cannot. Because despite your best efforts you will always be destroying land to get at the oil, and that will destroy habitat. If you build a reserve they will always claim it is not big enough.

The thing that made the 4200 foot wide crater in Arizona was about 160 feet in diameter. Your presumptive impacter is more than three times that, giving a crater of about three miles wide, 800 to a thousand feet deep. The shock wave alone would kill anyone within 120 miles. Smoke? Yes, not that there would be many to notice or care.

If it landed in an ocean the tsunami would devastate shorelines for thousands of miles, making the one in the Indian Ocean from a couple years ago look like nothing.

Now that a major oil field was discovered near angola?

when can we expect bush to declare war on angola? Now that a major oil field was discovered near angola?
Why any people at all of any political affiliation still believe in this oil nonsense is beyond me. Iraq was invaded mostly for personal reasons - finish off your father's arch nemesis, get some great contractor work for your chum's companies as a bonus. Now that a major oil field was discovered near angola?
Lets examine your veiw of world events, we are at war because Bush wants oil? Hmmm, after 7 years as the president and Bush does not have a single drop of oil. Guess he just has to try harder. You're such a retard, and a political bigot.
New oil fields come online all over the world on a regular basis.

But it is easy to to whip up a frenzy.
This is yet another STUPID question. First off, Bush isn't in Iraq for oil. I just still cannot believe people are saying this. If he really wanted oil, he would of invaded Saudi Arabia. The have a hell of alot more oil then the Iraqis, and it would be easier to take over.

So my answer is no. Maybe he would if there was a power hungry dictator hell bent on slaughtering people and trying to get his hands on WMA's to destroy the west. Yep then we would probably go in. The problem with liberals like you is that you over think everything a little bit too much. If someone said they were going to attack you and then said they had the means, you wouldn't go in and show them not to threaten you?
Well the Angolans will go back to civil war again so no need for Bush to intervene. Their government will be just as corrupt as the Nigerian one and the oil will not benefit the ordinary citizens of Angola. Its a shame but these will be the facts.
I expect a private race to ensue titling rights to the natural resource. Greed will decide the fate of individuals around it and,

I'm sure that America will want a hand in, stock at minimum if possible.

  • What is the difference between a workover rig and a drilling rig in the oil field?

The drill is what we punch the holes with. It has a rotary head that travels up and down the mast to turn the steel. On deep hole drills you will usually drill with mud or mud rotary, on shallower drills (like 3000 ft) you run air rotary or mud or you can drill reverse circulation, with an air driven hammer. Now a work over rig doesn't have a top or power head. Its really just a big winch for running casing tools or clean outs in and out of a hole that is all ready drilled. We use them for setting well casing allot of times or just reworking and older hole. What is the difference between a workover rig and a drilling rig in the oil field?
Well it mainly has to do with the quantum fluctuations in the differentiable manifold which is located by the sthochastic isentropic attractor.

Foreground should be detailed. The further back you go the lighter and less detailed you should be. Darkest darks and lightest lights should be closer. Don't forget the shadows away from the light.

Would a strike by the oil rig hands/oil field workers cause the U.S. to pay more attention to gas prices.?

I think that Oil Field workers should go on strike and demand that they make more money. The owners of the drilling rig are making a killing and I know that the every day worker doesn't make near what he or she is worth. It's wrong. Gas prices go up. Oil companies get rich. I bet they would take notice if their oil hands stopped drilling their precious oil for them.Would a strike by the oil rig hands/oil field workers cause the U.S. to pay more attention to gas prices.?
Geesh. Let's get our facts straight here. First of all, roughnecks (common name for those working on oil rigs) are having a hey-day right now. They are getting paid better than they ever have. Its the fastest growing job sector in the U.S. right now (see link below). So why on earth would they go on strike??? I believe they are getting in excess of $30/hr on average, plus per diems.

Second the owners of drilling rigs are not the ones enjoying the profits of oil or natural gas sales. Oil companies own and operate wells, whereas drilling rig companies own and operate rigs. One is the client of the other.

And regarding the answer above, there are blatant misstatements of facts. Iran, IRAQ and Venezuela only make up approx. 11% of the world's oil production,......not half.....not even close. Additionally, the U.S. is the 3rd largest producer at approx 8 million barrels per day, NOT the holder of the 3rd largest reserves - we have approx 3% of the worlds proved reserves - we've just developed those reserves far more than most so we are producing more. The problem is that we use 21 million barrels per day, so we import 70% of our oil. That's sending approx $700 BILLION to foreign countries PER YEAR. The imports keep growing as well as the price of oil, thus increasing the number from both ends. This is what is having a huge impact on our economy. Now if our government would just let oil companies drill here in the U.S. we could keep those $$$ here, and cause massive job creation.

Lastly, speculators have a very limited impact on the price of oil. Why, because they are not users. All the future contracts they buy, they eventually sell, hence they NEVER take possession of the actual commodity, so all the ';demand'; they create, they eventually unwind a few months later when the future contract matures. An understanding of markets and economics comes in handy here.

How do I know this? I also work for a small domestic oil company and we have a subsidiary that owns and operates drilling rigs. Before that I worked on Wall Street providing financing for oil companies.

This is just a hot topic these days, but the tragedy is that very few have the slightest idea about what is truly going on, and even less have a grasp of actual facts. If the average American (and politican) were just to take a economic class....Would a strike by the oil rig hands/oil field workers cause the U.S. to pay more attention to gas prices.?
No. Because it is not the problem with the high prices of oil and gas. The problem lies with speculators. They did it in the late 1990's to the Asian currencies when we laughed at Dr. Mahathir from Malaysia who said these mercenary funds and their operators would come home to roost eventually as they would need another commodity to bully.

The US remains one of the largest owners of the world's oil as well as the largest user of oil and gas. Within the US lie the 3rd largest world reserves of oil. Its interest in the oil production of Saudi Arabia and other countries makes it possibly the largest in the world as far as control of reserves are concerned. Its ability to control the sea lanes which the oil is carried through and to interdict and interrupt its flow makes it ultimately responsible for what happens to oil and oil prices.

Recently though, Venezuela, Irak, Iran, Indonesia, Nigeria, Libya and Algeria have been experiencing problems with foreign direct investment in oil production domestically.

Iran and Irak of course together with Venezuella make up about half the worlds production. Collectively these countries all unfriendly to the US and its attitudes towards them, control more than half the worlds production. The Saudis too are not very friendly with the US.

Irak was meant to be a push over with the killing of Saddam a former ally. But like most other dreams they turn into nightmares and this one provied no different. So there is 6.5 million barrells per day less on the market from Irak.

Add to this the US desire to force China and India to free their currencies so that it can be speculated against, and you get an American controlled oil industry worldwide raising prices through the use of futures contracts and other synthetic financial devices to drive up prices. Why?

China and India are voracious users of imported oil to drive their economies. They have little control over that commodity on the supply side. China has enormous foreign exchange reserves which are the largest in the world. It keeps the Yuan, its currency artifically low to make them super competitive against the world in terms of manufacturing and other industries.

The US and Europe have repeatedly asked them to free float the Yuan and they have not complied. This is a way of forcing them to release some of the foreign exchange reserves if they don't want to free float the Yuan. In increasing oil prices artificially they have been forced to sell down some of their reserves especially US dollars they hold to pay for oil denominated in US dollars. It also makes production of manufactured goods in China in the end more costly than it has been so far. get the picture?

If oil workers lay down their tools, they can be replaced immeidateely with cheaper workers. Workers are people. People are dispensible commodities in the world today. Not just in China, but also in Irak and in the west.

The fact many in the west go cold, hungry and without what they would otherwise have been able to afford dos not matter. We have a government of oil and construction executives. Thats what matters. Go to Allentown and ask them what happened to their jobs. The government line is that this is the free market. Free for them to sell your rights to a less responsible government who can kill or imprison their people who do not comply or who will strike with impunity. Its a form of rendering. Rendering your jobs

  • What is ';snubbing'; in the oil field industry?

The act of putting drillpipe into the wellbore when the blowout preventers (BOPs) are closed and pressure is contained in the well. Snubbing is necessary when a kick is taken, since well kill operations should always be conducted with the drillstring on bottom, and not somewhere up the wellbore. If only the annular BOP has been closed, the drillpipe may be slowly and carefully lowered into the wellbore, and the BOP itself will open slightly to permit the larger diameter tool joints to pass through. If the well has been closed with the use of ram BOPs, the tool joints will not pass by the closed ram element. Hence, while keeping the well closed with either another ram BOP or the annular BOP, the ram must be opened manually, then the pipe lowered until the tool joint is just below the ram, and then closing the ram again. This procedure is repeated whenever a tool joint must pass by a ram BOP. In snubbing operations, the pressure in the wellbore acting on the cross-sectional area of the tubular can exert sufficient force to overcome the weight of the drillstring, so the string must be pushed (or ';snubbed';) back into the wellbore. In ordinary stripping operations, the pipe falls into the wellbore under its own weight, and no additional downward force or pushing is required. What is ';snubbing'; in the oil field industry?

Take a look at the oil companies' profits. Then take a look at who owns those companies.

And be careful of the supply and demand arguments. Demand from China in particular has been rising steadily for some time. Then take a look at the way OPEC regulates supply.

We are being taken for a ride by these profiteering bastards.

Besides - did you know that the second Gulf war followed closely after Saddam nationalised Iraq's oilfields?

Surprise, surprise.Pice of petrol? Why do you think gas price shot up as soon as we captured the third biggest oil field in the?
Not sure what oilfield you are talking about.

Oil has increased in price mainly due to increased demand from China and third world countries. Speculation by investors is also thought to be playing a big part in this. Some uncertainties in places like Nigeria and The Middle East generally (for example Iran) have led to foward prices rising.
The cost of crude is predominantly determined by the nature of supply and demand.

Iraqs oil field is not being exploited by the coalition and therefore has little bearing on crude prices.

Middle East instability does indeed cause spikes in the cost of crude but the general trend is upwards as stocks dwindle and demand grows.

Your figures are much more accurate as the BMA and Red Cross estimates use the same source our official figures use ... for Afghanistan!

Anyway, it couldn't be down to the fact that blowing up their infrastructure on out little illegal war of occupation dropped production (demand and SUPPLY Private Parts) by 2m barrels a day could it... that's about half, and seemingly enough for every speculator on the planet, US military included, to make it spike on the basis of an imminent threat to invade or bomb Iran...

The one more important fact of life in the oil fields is that work is now steady. Companies during conference calls mention that they are now able to provide steady employment, especially in drilling employment. Years ago, it was off and on work. I think it would matter where you are located or willing to locate... there are certain parts of the globe where work in this area is pretty steady... I know there is lots of opportunity in the North Sea, for instance. It would also depend if you are a contract employee or a direct employee of a company.

    Drilling Engineer Occupational Outlook

The number of jobs for petroleum engineers is declining in the U.S., but U.S. firms will be hiring for work in other countries and projections indicate that there will be a small number of graduates in this field, so prospects are good. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov), salaries range from $57,960 to over $145,000, with the median being about $98,000. The starting salary in 2007 for new petroleum engineering graduates was around $60,000. (Source: National Association of Colleges and Employers)

What is needed to get into the oil refinery field?

do you need a certificate of some sort? Like what are they looking for you to have? What is needed to get into the oil refinery field?
    It's according to what you mean about ';get into the field';

To work there, all you need to do is apply. To move up in the chain of command, you may well need some special training and end up earning some 'certificates' of some form or another.

To own one, all you need is money.

To build one, you need a miracle.

What would happen if a 25 megaton Nuclear device was detonated underground in the largest Saudi oil field?

Would the explosion ignite the oil and blow up everything or would it not do anything since there is no oxygen? What would happen if a 25 megaton Nuclear device was detonated underground in the largest Saudi oil field?
The resulting heat would probably allow the oil to auto-ignite on contact with oxygen, though whether the detonation would open up an air channel is really dependant on the depth and nature of the strata in general.

I don't think a deep well would ignite at all, even if it did get access to a small tract to the open air, the pressure difference would stop the oxygen getting down to keep any fire going, it would asphyxiate itself b^^dWhat would happen if a 25 megaton Nuclear device was detonated underground in the largest Saudi oil field?
It would ignite. The nuclear device doesn't need oxygen to explode since it gets all its energy from the fission reaction. That explosion would ignite the oil. Besides the explosion from the nuclear device would create a hole on the ground that would allow oxygen to get in.
with a 25 megtaton supply of nuclear bombs, you wouldnt worry about the oil catching on fire or anything. The explosion would already blow up everything..

From everything I hear, it's not that difficult. There is a lot work in Edmonton for building upgraders/refineries and for modular work for Ft McMurray. You could go up to Ft McMurray but I don't think it's necessary. I would suggest just looking in the paper and talking to as many people as possible.
Try Grande Prairie too. Apply to the companies in person with your steel toed boots on ready to go. Pick a company you'd like to work for like Suncor or others and gear your goals to them. Do some research by phone calls to the HR departments, etc. Lots of work in northeastern Alberta too as well as northern BC.

Working in the oil field on the rigs is one of the hardest jobs you will ever love. The pay is very good, considering you only work 6 months a year and they feed you all you can stand to eat. You work 12 hours a day, and when you factor in the overtime, it is a decent wage.

Salaries depend on what position you start in. Roustabouts and Roughnecks are the basic entry level positions. Roughnecks work on the rig floor, while Roustabouts are the ';janitors'; on a rig.

Salaries will vary with experience. The best thing you can do to find out what they are is to call a drilling company and find out what the pay rate is as I have been out of the industry too long (I was paid $12/hour as a Roughneck back in the 80's).

Derricks have been falling like dominos for almost a year. Oil prices are falling and gas prices are flat. I dont think its going to get any better for at least a year, maybe more, I doubt anyone is going to be hiring soon. This is like the 80s crash. Many people who had worked two or three decades in the oilfield had to find other careers for the rest of their working lives.

Oil fields jobs are available in a few locations in Alberta. Obviously, Fort McMurray is the winner here. You should try searching these jobs on a job search engine such as wowjobs.ca that gets jobs from numerous locations.

Im looking for a job to get into the oilfield. Im a hard worker and just need to know who to talk to or where i need to go to apply. Any answers would really help me . thanksWhere can I get an entry level oil field job in north texas?
It depends on what part of North Texas you live in and what part of the oilfield you are looking at getting into. If you live towards Denton/ Wise counties, and see a rig, it's a good idea to stop and ask the toolpusher about a job, he can normally point you towards other companies and people to get in contact with that are working in the area. Around Bridgeport you can look for well service yards around towns, just stop in and talk to them. The oilfield is suffering from a shortage of hands, atleast here in NE Texas, and jobs are easy to come by.Where can I get an entry level oil field job in north texas?
Now it's next to impossible, but in a few months if the economy comes up and the oil market isn't suffering try any big time oilfield companies if they are hiring any drillers, floorhands, or swampers. Report Abuse

I need to know so I know what to expect.Im thinking about going into the oil field, but Im not in the best shape right now, Is it really that bad?
oil-field is physically demanding, but if you are in decent shape and are pretty active, you should be o k. grab a hard hat, go to a rig and ask if you can sit in your car and watch for a while. tell them you just want to see what you might be getting yourself into. some days you will sit in the doghouse and not lift a finger. others, you bust --- for 14-16 hours straight.

Is the oil field gonna pick back up and be busy again in 2009?

My husband works as a stabber on a casing crew and he hasn't been called out for two weeks now and its never been this slow before. Will it pick back up again and will the rigs come out of the weeds any time soon. I'm getting worried right now and thinking maybe the oil field jobs are done for good.Is the oil field gonna pick back up and be busy again in 2009?
Oil patch jobs are not gone for good. What is killing the drilling business right now is the low price for natural gas....we need a cold winter and/or the economy to pick up and raise the demand for gas. Hang in there - I know things are tough. I've been in this business since 1975 and have seen lots of ups and downs while working for 8 different companies as a geologist. If possible, maybe your husband could use this slack time to get some more education - God Bless and Good Luck

How difficult is it to get a oil field job and what are the real facts about the pay, what about advancement?

as far as more training to get a better paying job after working within a oil company for a while or do they keep you at one level? thanks for all infoHow difficult is it to get a oil field job and what are the real facts about the pay, what about advancement?
You really need to know someone who works on a rig and they will be able to get you on. You start as a worm and work your way up to roughneck and then you can become a tool pusher and so on. The pay starts in the high 30's to low 40's and can go up to around 90. This is for a land rig. Offshore pays a little better. Land rigs you will work 12 hour days 7 days a week (on one week off the other). If you want a week off you can get someone to work your week (without pay). If you work someone's week for them you will work one week, their week and then your week (3 weeks in a row). Offshore you work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. Also ';oil companies'; don't hire the rig crew. The drilling company or the company that owns the rig hires the rig crew. The oil industry is made up of oil companies and service companies (bit company, mud company, rig, directional drillers etc). Again you really have to know someone to get ';in';, it is good money BUT HARD WORK(you will work your **** off). My cousin and my bfs husband are both tool pushers on rigs and my husband is a petro engineer.

I hope they did because then they will leave the Arctic National Wildlife Region alone.

There is another area that has a lot of oil in the US but it is not being discussed very much. I've been passing the below info on to those who keep telling us to reduce our gas mileage.

The U.S. Govt’s Secret Colorado Oil Discovery

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world — more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. Three companies have been chosen to lead the way. Test drilling has already begun...

Very recently, the U.S. Energy Department announced the results of a land survey...

It was conducted to determine the official amount of oil a thousand feet deep in the Rocky Mountains...

    They reported this stunning news:

We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.

    Here are the official estimates:

8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia

18-times as much oil as Iraq

21-times as much oil as Kuwait

22-times as much oil as Iran

500-times as much oil as Yemen

...And it’s all right here in the Western United States.

James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says, “We’ve got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East.”

More than 2 TRILLION barrels. Untapped.

“That’s more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today,” reports The Denver Post.

When asked about America’s least-publicized oil supply, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch said:

“The amounts of oil are staggering. Who would have guessed that in just Colorado and Utah, there is more recoverable oil than in the Middle East?”

    Here’s the kicker...

The U.S. government already owns the land. It’s been right there under our noses the whole time.

In fact, the government’s appointed a small group of companies to lead the way to the oil.

    Test drilling has already begun.

According to the RAND Corporation (a public-policy think tank for the government), this small region can produce:

Three million barrels of oil per day... That translates into more than $20 BILLION a year.

These are the conservative estimates. The U.S. Energy Dept. estimates an eventual output of 10 million barrels of oil per day.

There’s a new source of oil in the American West.

Today, it sits idle — untapped — inside more than 16,000 square miles of rock and sand.

Geologists call what lies in this region, oil shale.

    What is oil shale?

At first glance, oil shale looks like an ordinary black rock.

It feels grainy to the touch and... greasy. You see, what’s inside oil shale has huge governments, Big Oil, venture capitalists, and even everyday investors scrambling to stake a claim.

Oil shale — when heated — oozes bubbling crude.

This precious resource is rare — found only in a few select countries. Places like China, Brazil, Estonia, Morocco, and Australia.

But the real story is how much untapped oil shale lies beneath U.S. soil. There’s 4-times more oil shale in the U.S. than in all other countries combined.

Over the past 125 years, oil shale has been the secret oil source for a handful of nations. Specifically, those fortunate enough to have it...

China’s been using oil shale since 1929. Today, China is the largest producer of oil from oil shale. It plans to double the daily rate of production soon.

Estonia is an oil shale dependent economy. Over 90% of the country’s electricity is fueled by shale oil. In fact, electricity run on oil shale is a chief export.

In 1991, Brazil built the world’s largest oil shale facility. They’ve already produced more than 1.5 MILLION tons of oil to make high quality transportation fuels.

Jordan, Morocco, and Australia have recently announced plans to utilize their oil shale resources. All 3 governments are currently working to build oil shale facilities.

But all these countries’ oil shale resources pale in comparison to the U.S. supply. Tthe United States dominates the oil shale market — with over 72% of the world’s oil shale resources.

Our gargantuan supply of oil lies beneath an area called the Green River Formation — a barren stretch of land covering portions of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.

World-renowned geologist Walter Youngquist calls the oil beneath the Green River Formation, “a national treasure.”

Congress calls this area simply, “the next Saudi Arabia.”

    It’s easy to see why...

This region holds the largest known oil reserve on the planet...

Colorado’s Oil Lands — Restricted for 76 Years, Now Open for Drilling

There are over 16,000 square miles of oil shale in the Green River formation...

Each acre holds 2 million barrels of oil — it’s the most concentrated energy source on earth, according to the Energy Department.

The federal government owns 80% of this oil-rich land.

In fact, the government placed protective legislation on this land in 1930, forbidding anyone to touch it.

You see, the government always knew this land was saturated with oil — but getting it out has always been expensive.

Buying oil from foreign countries was always the cheaper bet. It has been for the past 80 years.

Wisely, the government kept the land around for a “rainy day”, protecting it with 1930s legislation.

I’m sure you’re aware of today’s situation at the gas pump. Buying oil from foreign countries has gotten out of hand. The price of oil is sky-high. It’s way too expensive to keep buying foreign oil. In other words, the “rainy day” has finally arrived.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Oil shale technologies have begun to advance – drastically.

Companies are coming up with ways to extract oil from the Green River Formation very cheaply.

For example, one Utah-based company says it can extract the oil for as little as $10 a barrel. In fact dozens of companies have stepped forward with similar claims. With oil prices approaching $70 a barrel – these are pretty significant breakthroughs.

That’s all the government needed to hear.

On August 8, 2005, President Bush signed into law, a new energy mandate.

This mandate is called The Energy Policy Act of 2005. It calls for the opening phases of oil extraction in the Green River Formation – the world’s most concentrated energy source.

We’re finally ready to tap the largest oil reserve on the planet...

“The United States Could become ‘The New Middle East’”

    ~ U.S. Energy Department Survey

If you want to get in on the American oil shale boom, here’s what you need to know...

    The New Middle East

It can be difficult to imagine such massive amounts of oil. Below, I’ve included a page of the Energy Department’s classified report. It puts into perspective how much recoverable oil we have — and the kind of money that will be made...

There’s so much oil in this region the Energy Dept. thinks we could become the world’s leading oil producer.

This reserve is so big it’s projected to last for 500 years, according to some estimates.

You could even add together all the oil in the Middle East—and our reserves would still come out on top — 3-TIMES LARGER.

    That’s a lot of oil.

Of the 2 trillion barrels of proven oil in the Green River Formation — between 800 billion and 1.2 trillion barrels are recoverable. That’s the amount of oil we can actually get out and use.

Extracting this much domestic oil is very attractive to the government, especially in today’s politically unstable environment.

It’s estimated that tapping U.S. oil shale would decrease domestic oil prices by as much as five percent a year. That may not sound like much, but consider that a 5% drop in oil prices would save Americans $15 - $20 BILLION a year at the gas pumps.

That’s why on August 8, 2005, President Bush signed into law the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

This historic legislation officially opens up the Green River Formation to a handful of drilling companies.

In January, the government accepted proposals from six companies to test their oil shale drilling methods for commercial production.

Already 3 have been cut... Now only 3 are left.

From the remaining three, I think only one company’s drilling technology will meet the government’s strict shale development standards – and go on to develop oil shale on a commercial level.

This company would be responsible for launching America’s first commercial oil shale operation and production “...Leading the way to more than two trillion barrels of oil shale deposits in the Green River Formation,” writes the U.S. Federal News Service.

How much can you expect to make?

You may be aware of a similar situation going on, right now in the oil business, in an area called the Alberta Oil Sands.

This region in Northern Canada holds billions of barrels of oil – which also happen to be locked inside large amounts of sand and rock.

Oil shale is still a ground floor opportunity.

The Piceance basin has the highest oil concentration in the Green River Formation – holding more than 1.2 TRILLION barrels of oil.

This is the region the government-selected companies will use to test their shale drilling methods.

How fast does the government want to get full-scale oil shale production started?

Exxon's oil shale proposal was rejected almost immediately because they didn't have a ten-year oil shale program in place. This reveals just how serious the government is about getting U.S.oil shale production up and running within the next 10 years.

As long as the government is pushing the oil shale development in the Piceance basin, this company will have to supply the power.

And I don’t see the government leaving anytime soon.

The oil shale [testing] will take place in the same areas where drilling for natural gas has been rapidly expanding. If all the leases produce, the area would be transformed into a highly industrialized zone with a network of roads, pipelines, rail lines, and power plants to service the gas fields, oil shale heating sites and oil shale mines.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management

In other words, if you’re a company going after oil shale, you need more than just the ';secret energy'; source, you need natural gas – and lots of it.

Oil shale companies use natural gas to heat the oil shale, run electricity, and for the day-to-day operations...

Natural gas is the cheapest way to get energy to the remote areas of western Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.

The Bush administration has already designated the Green River Formation, “The Next Big Energy Boom.”

As you can see, the U.S. government has already set the wheels in motion for oil shale.

Oil shale is not the only place oil companies are looking for oil...

The Minerals Management Service estimates that there are 71 billion barrels of oil waiting to be discovered in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

There are another 85 billion barrels off the coast of West Africa...

And the waters that surround the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea could hold as many as 300 billion barrels.

Altogether, these three regions alone represent enough reserves to replace HALF of all oil we’ve ever burned on earth.

The U.S. Government’s Secret Oil Supply:

The Green River Formation is the largest known supply of oil in the world — holding more than 2 TRILLION barrels.

    Here’s the clincher...

Even if they never find another drop of oil — they have enough reserves and production capacity — to last another 12 years.

The Pentagon has announced plans to purchase 300,000 barrels of Green River oil shale every day. They’ll use this fuel for military aircraft and vehicles. This deal shows just how fast things are moving in the Green River Formation.
    doesnt matter.

you dont want to do that is baaaaaadHow do you get in the oil field work?
right now the oil business is flat..The exploration for natural gas and crude are being driven down by the relative low price of crude per barrel .In Texas oil production is low because the price is low..For a guy to start doing work in the OIL field right now you might have to stand in line behind people with 15 yrs of experience . The best bet that I could get on finding a job though would be in the Houston to Midland area of Texas. there are lots of people hiring roughnecks and field electricians. Just the other day I was in Lubbock Texas At TEXAS Tech and the outskirts of town were littered with the skeletons of oil/gas drilling rigs ..It was a really disheartening site. When nat gas and gasoline prices go back up a little and i'm positive they will be primed for the boom that will be in the east texas area around henderson and lufkin. There are well sites there with no well on them that have been there for 2 years waiting on an investment rig. Well the forecast for oil might be better but I'm SURE it will get better as the summer goes by..Well there ya go From the E..
    Try an apprenticeship?

What conditions are required for the creation of an oil field?

    1. source rock (with right mix of organic material)

    2. reservoir rock (porous) to hold hydrocarbon

    3. maturation of source rock from time %26amp; heat %26amp; pressure

    4. migration pathway for hydrocarbon fluids to make its way from source to reservoir (faults, permeable rock, etc)

    5. seals and traps (could be structural) to keep oil in reservoir rockWhat conditions are required for the creation of an oil field?
impervious rock similar to an aquifer, carboniferous materials in great abundance, and an over mantle or over burden of material that prevents the oil from leaching away. and last but not least someone to locate and drill for the oil.

What is it like to work as an oil field engineer?

For Schlumberger oil field services company. Or any other. What is it like to work as an oil field engineer?
Not too bad, some of my friends work for Schlumberger, but it depends on what your job is exactly. If its a basic entry level field engineer you may find that it is quite tough as of the current climate at the moment. In a month expect to be working more than 14 days and not having too much time off. As the oil price is very high, most companies are very busy and thus are the people. Its a great time to get started as you progress much quicker than expected. Depending on your qualifications, if you have a degree go into M/LWD or if not go into Wireline. Both jobs are good although wireline is a bit more stressful if things are not going to plan. If you want you can email me and I can suggest which companies to apply to.What is it like to work as an oil field engineer?
If you work for an oil field service company the pay is fair but the hours can be lousy. You tend to be on call 24/7 and most of the time it seems you are needed at night and on weekends.

If you are going to work in the oil field, choose a production company.

How can i calculate using electricity in oil field radiator?

I have a oil field radiator and I want to find out how much I have to pay for its using electricity each hour. It use 1500Watt and it is outomatic. How can i calculate using electricity in oil field radiator?
This works by having an electric element in a bath of oil. The element heats the oil to a certain temperature. The oil then slowly looses the heat to the outside world. When the oil has cooled to a certain level, then the element turns on again to heat the oil up.

1500W - it uses 1 1/2 units for every hour that it is heating the oil, of course the element might not be on for a full hour, it might be on fo half an hour in an hour, so uses 1 1/2 units in 2 hours. 1 unit typically costs about 8p at the moment, though you can get it cheaper by shopping around (check uswitch.com)

The actual amount of energy needed depends on too many variables for me to say ';It will cost you 拢1 a day';. For example, the size of the room you are heating, how many outside walls and windows it has, whether the doors and windows are kept open or shut, the temperature you want the room, how many hours the heater is heating the room for (is it off overnight, for example), many variables

You can replace it with an electric fan heater which will use a simular amount of energy to heat the room to the same temperature. How can i calculate using electricity in oil field radiator?
Oil FILLED radiator, 1500 watts is equal to burning one and a half units per hour, check your electricity bill to see what you are paying per unit.
I'd like to answer this question with another question - is the standard of literacy falling?
As it's automatic and will have many variables, switch ever electric appliance in the house off, take a meter reading, gob down the pub for an hour and see how much has been used.
depends how big the Field is!!
you can get a machine for that

  • What are problems caused by abnormal fluid pressure in an oil field?

please list me the problems that are made by pore and fracture pressures during exploration and drilling of an oil reservoir? What are problems caused by abnormal fluid pressure in an oil field?
Its not a huge problem if you know beforehand that you will be drilling into an over pressured zone, you simply increase your drilling fluid (mud) density such that the pressure the mud exerts is greater than the reservoir pressure. If you do not know this and drill into an over pressured zone you will take a kick, (The well will begin to flow) depending on how much of the hole is already cased will determine how much pressure you can control on the surface with the blow out preventors, in 99% of the cases you will be able to control the well, mix drilling mud to the right density and slowly gain control. If you are unable to gain control you will have a blow out, when this happens whether its oil or gas the drilling rig will usually catch on fire and will be destroyed, there is potential for loss of life. If the gas is sour the drilling supervisor has a flare gun and once the men are safely off the rig he has to set the rig on fire to prevent the sour gas from escaping. (its highly poisonous)What are problems caused by abnormal fluid pressure in an oil field?
Abnormal Pressure is a very typical term being used in Oil field.

This essentially mean ';High Formation Pressure';. If not controlled (there are ways to control it during drilling), there is a ';kick';, or a disastrous ';blow out';.
The main problem that I see is the potential for a blowout if your drilling mud weight is too low. The pore pressure in the fromation will seek the easiest route to relieve pressure, this could cause a blow out as mud and gas escape up the borehole and could injure your drillers and crew, as well as machinery, and crete a possible spill (if you are drilling off shore for instance, you could have a release to the ocean).
