Working in the oil field on the rigs is one of the hardest jobs you will ever love. The pay is very good, considering you only work 6 months a year and they feed you all you can stand to eat. You work 12 hours a day, and when you factor in the overtime, it is a decent wage.
Salaries depend on what position you start in. Roustabouts and Roughnecks are the basic entry level positions. Roughnecks work on the rig floor, while Roustabouts are the ';janitors'; on a rig.
Salaries will vary with experience. The best thing you can do to find out what they are is to call a drilling company and find out what the pay rate is as I have been out of the industry too long (I was paid $12/hour as a Roughneck back in the 80's).
